When I have my wedding consultations, my conversations always include all the little details of the wedding and soon lead to what

seems the biggest part of planning the wedding — THE DRESS!

I wanted to do a feature on Bridal Debut to help brides understand the process of purchasing

a wedding gown and where else to go than Bridal Debut!

I am a little biased as I did work for Bridal Debut, and always try to steer my brides towards this boutique.

The service and wide variety of choices will not let you down!  From the minute you walk in for your first appointment to your last alteration,

you will be treated like you are the only bride of the season!

Shelley, from the Sherwood Park location, took time out to answer some questions for me and will hopefully help

you when starting your wedding gown hunt!

Tell me about the experience brides can expect at Bridal Debut?

“Brides can expect a great experience when they come to bridal debut! We have trained, knowledgeable consultants to help you one on one to help find that perfect dress. Bridal Debut is a full service salon offering a large selection of bridal gowns, bridesmaid’s dresses, accessories and seamstresses all in one spot so it makes it a convenient and stress free shopping experience.”

What sets your boutique apart from the rest?

“I think the main thing that brides will find that sets us apart is honestly, our service. We genuinely care about our brides and always have finding their perfect dress a priority. We are not about pressure sales or selling the most expensive dresses. We purposely don’t have our consultants on commission for this reason. We carry a wide range of styles, sizes, and price points, so we truly have a dress to meet every brides needs.”

What designers do you carry?Any exclusive designers?

“Bridal Debut carries designs from Maggie Sottero, Sottero and Midgley, Alfred Sung,Allure and Exclusive at both of our locations. We like to carry more exclusive collections that not everybody has like the Maggie Sottero line, and our fabulous Swarovski crystal Benjamin Adams shoes!. We like to carry the latest trends in the gowns as well as the accessories to make sure all our brides look modern and fabulous!

Bridal Debut likes to try new things and is always trying to stay ahead of the trends.”

What is the newest trend in bridal gowns and accessories?

“The newest trends this year are all about using different textures. Dresses are being made of all different fabrics and they are being draped in ways to give the gown style as opposed to covering it with beads. Belts are also really popular. Brides are adding color, bling or flowers to their dress just by adding a simple belt. Lace has always been popular and I think always will be, I find they are just adding more 3 dimensional elements to it to make it more modern. Some designers are coming out with short dresses as well as high-low hem (short in the front, long in the back).

Typically, what can brides expect in terms of budget when purchasing a gown at Bridal Debut?

“We have dresses in all budgets. Our gowns start at $700 and go up to $3000. Although I would say the average dress we sell is $1500. We always tell girls to budget $300 to $500 for alterations plus all their accessories (shoes, veils, jewelry).”

How far in advance should brides order their gowns?

“Brides should order their gowns at least 8 months prior to the wedding.

Some designers can take up to six months for delivery, plus you need 2 months for alterations.”

What should brides bring to their first appointment?

“Brides should bring their mom or MOH to their appointment, too many people can be overwhelming.

A camera is a good idea and maybe some pictures of gowns you are interested in and an open mind.

Consultants know what will look good more then the bride, so trust them!

Also, please make sure you wear underwear!!”

What is the process brides should expect once their gowns are ordered?

“When you order a gown, you will need to put down a 50% deposit to order it. The gown will take up to 6 months to come in and you will pay balance at that time. The bride will usually come in right away to try it on and make sure everything is all good. Some will try on final accessories at this time as well. If you do require alterations, we will book you a fitting with the seamstress. You will probably need two fittings and will pay for them after they are done and bride is happy. We then offer to leave the dress in the store until right before their wedding. We will give it a final press and make it look perfect for the big day! Brides will typically come a couple days before the wedding to pick up their gowns.”

For Cinder, David, family and friends, New Years Eve 2011 festivities were celebrated with a romantic, intimate evening wedding.  I travelled to Calgary to photograph this romantic day for Cinder & David and I can’t think of a better couple to have shared the last day of 2011 with.  Their love story is that of romance, companionship, deep admiration and laughter!  I love nothing more than shooting an event and not only seeing the connection of my couple, but feeling it.  The passion for life and love these two share is infectious and I loved every minute of being a part of their day!

What was the most memorable moment of your wedding day?

David:                  Seeing Cin for the first time in her wedding dress. She was so stunningly beautiful & to hear the words “I now pronounce you husband and wife.”

During their ceremony, David’s son, above left, was overcome by emotion…it was such a beautiful moment, and yes, of course I cried too!!

blog10

What was the funniest part of your day?

Cinder:                  My brothers as our MC’s

blog11What was the most memorable moment of your wedding day?

Cinder:                  Our first dance together as husband and wife

blog12

One of my favorite moments was Cinder’s dance with her father….so emotional, and let’s face it, I’m a big baby for the daddy dances!!

What was your favorite detail?

Cinder:                  Having a room full of our closest friends and family for an entire evening together

David:                  I would say the whole thing cause my wife did most of the details and was bang on with it everything from the colors we picked to the set up of the tables to the food. Every detail was amazing and I can’t say I have one favorite other then the best detail of picking the best woman to be my wife.

Do you have any advice for future Bride & Grooms?

Cinder:                  Don’t get caught up in all the details because NONE of it matters on the actual day

David:                  Just remember its your day no one else’s so relax and enjoy it.

If anything, what would you do different?

Cinder:                  Potentially would have gone away for a week so could spend more time visiting with everyone J

David:                  It was the most amazing day I have ever had and I wouldn’t change a thing cause it was perfect. Friends family and the most amazing and beautiful bride ever.

Where are you going on your honeymoon?

Scottsdale for some shopping and golfing!

Thank you both again for having me be a part of your day!

Congratulations! xoxo

Junaline & Roberto

August 14, 2011

Junaline & Roberto live in Lebanon but travelled here to be married so Junaline’s family could be a part of their wedding.  With only 20 guests present at their Wednesday afternoon ceremony, there was no shortage of love or laughter!

I’m so happy to have met Junaline & Roberto and feel honoured to have been a part of their day!   I’m sure their “second wedding” in Lebanon will be just as special….Congratulations!

Jodi & Chris

June 20, 2011

The rain this past Saturday didn’t spoil the wedding of Jodi & Chris!

After a quick ceremony at the Sacred Heart Church in downtown Edmonton, we found shelter from the rain for their formal photos. Here are some of my favorites!

When Rachel & Cory wed in a Jewish ceremony last month, it was magical.  Rob and I had the honor of photographing this couple and it proved to be one of the most emotional weddings for me.

It was our first Jewish ceremony,  the traditions and the overall feeling of the day was to have FUN!  And it was!

Cory spoke of timing in his speech at the reception, held at the Matrix Hotel in downtown Edmonton, and it was the most moving and heartfelt speech I have ever heard (all of the speeches that night were great, but his words were incredible!).  Rachel’s father introduced the two of them years ago, and their paths crossed throughout the years, but it wasn’t until the timing was right that they “found” each other.

One thing that Cory said to me before we started photos was that he is so in love with being in love….he’s a true romantic and his love for Rachel is so strong……..their love for one another is so real and you can feel it just by being with them.

I left the celebration feeling rejuvenated and inspired by their love and the by love of their families.  I am so happy for them and wish them a lifetime of happiness and continued love!

If you are lucky enough to find your true soulmate in life, you don’t need anything else.  They are your best friend, your everything.  Congratulations Rachel & Cory!

Kayla & Mike ~ Married

April 10, 2011

I”m a little behind on my blog posts, but had to post my favorite images from Kayla & Mike’s wedding.  A super cute couple, an amazing family and a relatively mild winter day made our job fun and easy!

We spent the entire day with Kayla & Mike and the most touching moments for me, was at the reception when Mike’s dad played guitar and sang their first dance….it was so personal!

Then, I had to wipe away my tears while we all watched Kayla dance with her dad….I normally cry at every wedding, but this dance was so emotional.

Now I’ll let you get on to the photos!!Blog4Blog5Blog6psdBlog7Wishing you both a lifetime of happiness!!

Ashley & Dorian ~ Married.

November 1, 2010

You might remember this awesome couple from a couple months ago….

After a teary ceremony at St. Joseph’s Basilica we enjoyed the chilly afternoon downtown for our formal photos before heading to the Oasis Edmonton Conference Center for their reception.  Everything about their day was amazing!

I have to tell you too, that if you are looking for a venue for your reception, look no further than the Oasis!  The planner there is one of the best I’ve ever dealt with, every detail was perfect.  Now, onto the photos!! blog01
